Another OT Loss Sends BLC on Three Game Skid
By Mark Stehlin
It was just two weeks ago that the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) left the Peterborough Memorial Centre on a high after a decisive 13-9 win over the Lakers. Since that time, they have gone on a three-game losing skid including a close loss in Cobourg, an overtime loss at IPSC to Six Nations and now another overtime loss to the Kodiaks. The concerning factor is that in two of those games they possessed the lead in the third period. They will have to wait until next Wednesday to battle through this adversity and get back to winning ways.
Last’s night game started strong for the homeside as a couple of early goals, including a short-handed marker for Chris Boushy gave them a 2-0 lead with just five minutes off the clock. Cobourg countered and notched one in the last 1:30 to send the teams to break knotted at 3-3.
The second frame belonged to BLC as they outscored their guests by 5-3 to take a solid 8-6 lead into the final frame. If momentum is a guide, the two goals put up by the home side in the last 10 seconds of that period should have carried them to victory. Goals in that period included Connor Kearnan and rookie Michael White partnering on a nice passing play on transition. In addition, Ryan Barnable fought for a loose ball near his own bench and fired a shot past Cobourg starter Laine Hruska. It was Kearnan again on the power play with seven seconds left followed by rookie Will MacLeod with one second on the clock to give BLC the lead after forty minutes.

The Kodiaks came out of the room determined and tied the affair four minutes into the last period. Fans expected a tight one down the stretch. BLC regained their two-goal spread but two late goals by the Kodiaks meant the teams would need extra time to settle this one. Recently acquired player Thunder Hill made his Kodiaks debut a memorable one as he notched the overtime winner. The loss drops BLC to a record of 7-5 and improves the Kodiaks to .500 at 6-6 on the season.

“We know we are a good team with skilled guys and veterans, but we have to play better going forward, that’s one we want back for sure,” said rookie Michael White after the game.
“Losing with a lead in the third period is something we have to clean up. For me, the transition from Junior to Major has been an adjustment for sure, the guys are bigger and stronger, but my teammates have made the adjustment easier and I’m more comfortable out there with each game,” added White.

Next up is a home game on Wednesday July 9, 2025 when the Peterborough Lakers make their second visit of the season to IPSC. On that same night, BLC will recognize the 2000 Mann Cup champion Brooklin Redmen team with a pre-game ceremony. BLC fans will expect their team to regroup for a successful run to the playoffs.
BLC was happy to welcome Holden Garlent back to the team after a hiatus from BLC that saw him play a few seasons in the Premier Lacrosse League, a professional field league based out of the USA.
