By Mark Stehlin
Fans and players of the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) will see a new face behind the bench this season. General Manager, Gavin Prout announced that Steve Jacobs will join head coach Joel Johnson and assistants Brad Reed and Clancy Almas in an assistant role this summer.
“I am excited to start my time with BLC. I have already had a good conversation with Joel and have heard from the other assistant coaches. I see Senior A lacrosse as the top summer league and it is a big honour to be trusted to help out here, ” said Jacobs.
“I see my role as helping the players to max out their potential. I will bring the ability to dissect the game and help this team get to the next level,” added Jacobs.

Jacobs is no stranger to the turf at Iroquois Park Sports Centre. He was on the coaching staff of the 2025 Presidents Cup winning side, Snake Island Muskies. He was also part of the 1995 Presidents Cup champions Akwesasne Thunder squad. He is an accomplished player in his own right. In 1982, he was on the Akwesasne Warriors Sr B team as a teenager and was in the top 10 of scoring leaders. In 1983, he was a Founders Cup bronze medalist with the Jr Eagles. He also suited up for a short spell in 1988 with the Peterborough Lakers.
“Steve has helped a number of championships teams get to the position they are in. Steve has a wealth of lacrosse knowledge and just like any new set of eyes brings a fresh perspective to our team and coaching staff. He has a knack of breaking down film and making key adjustments on the fly. Steve will be a huge asset to the Brooklin Lacrosse Club and I'm looking forward to seeing the new dynamic on our bench,” said Prout in announcing the arrival of Jacobs.
“I am extremely pleased to have Steve coming on board with our staff. He brings a wealth of knowledge, passion, and experience to our club. He's been part of many successful teams over a number of years, so he fits right in with our staff as we continue to build a winning culture. We welcome Steve to the BLC family”, said head coach Joel Johnson.
BLC will start the 2026 Major Series Lacrosse schedule with a pair of road games. On Thursday May 21st they travel to Brampton for an 8:00 p.m. game against the Excelsiors.
