BLC Snap Three Game Win Streak with Loss to Lakers

By Mark Stehlin

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) entered Wednesday night’s home game on a high after amassing a three-game win streak. At the sound of the final buzzer, the ride was over by virtue of an 8-4 loss to the Peterborough Lakers. These were the same Lakers that BLC defeated last week in the unfriendly confines of the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

Steven Orleman for BLC and Drew Hutchison for Peterborough assumed positions in their respective nets. Hutchison would play all 60 minutes while Orleman was pulled after the visitors built a 4-0 lead with only 7:34 off the clock. Aden Walsh entered the game for BLC and played the rest of the way.

“The start was tough, and we dug a hole for ourselves that we probably shouldn’t have been in. It comes down to effort and desire, I give them (Lakers) credit because they came out hungry”, said head coach Joel Johnson following the game.

Landen Sinfield, with his first of two on the night, stemmed the tide and Chris Boushy added one late to send the teams to break with the Lakers ahead 4-2. Boushy’s marker caught Hutchinson by surprise as it caromed off the glass behind him and dropped into the net off his shoulder as he was backing up.

Each side managed only one goal in the middle frame as the Lakers maintained a two-goal lead after forty minutes.

The visitors reeled off two goals in 10 seconds to seal the deal early in the final period. BLC managed only one more goal on the night en route to the 8-4 loss. They now own a 4-3 record and will look to the next game to start another streak.

“Tonight’s game does not tell the character of this team; I love these guys because they are competitors. Potentially this is a lesson for us, we will see this as an off night. We needed to be better and that’s clear to all the guys in the room. Win or lose, we move on to the next one and find a way to be better and I am confident that we will,” added Johnson.

Scoring – Sinfield (2,0) Boushy (1,3) MacLeod (1,0) Tapper (0,1) Barnable (0,2)

After four games in a seven-day stretch the team now gets a break before they host the Owen Sound North Stars on Wednesday June 17, 2026 at 8 p.m.

The Brooklin Merchants are in action on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when the Ontario Series Lacrosse league Owen Sound North Stars are in town.
