BLC Stumble on the Road
By Mark Stehlin
The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) reached the mid-point of their 2026 summer campaign last night on the road in Cobourg with a game against the Kodiaks. These teams had split the season series with one win apiece, each taking two points in their opponent’s barn. At the buzzer, the Kodiaks earned the win by a final score of 14-9 and took the season series 2-1.
“For where we are and where we want to be has not yet been fully determined. We are still building chemistry, sure we have had challenges, but we pride ourselves on the hard work we see out there. We talk a lot about a contagious mentality and that is what we are building here,” said Joel Johnson head coach.
It was the hosts who would score first before Chase Scanlan with this 13th of the season on the power play tied the contest just over two minutes later. Scanlan’s goal involved a crisp three-way passing play, in front of Kodiaks goalie Laine Hruska, that included veteran Dan Lintner and Taggart Clark. The score after 20-minutes was 4-3 for Cobourg as they rattled off three in a row in the final two minutes.
The Kodiaks stretched their lead early in the second. It was a solo effort by Lintner on the power play that helped claw his team back into the contest. He snatched the ball and sprinted down the floor, he outlasted Hruska and patiently dropped it into the back of the net. Less than a minute later, recent addition to the line-up Dyson Williams scored to tie the contest at 5-5. The Kodiaks would not break. They managed four straight in the final six minutes of the middle frame and lead 9-5 after 40 minutes.
After being outscored 5-2 in the middle frame, BLC looked for a way to gain some momentum. Clark with his 11th and 12th of the season, Linter with his 11th and Scanlan with his team leading 14th accounted for the offensive output in the final 20 minutes. On the other end, the Kodiaks struck for five of their own for the win.
“We are still a confident group and a lot of guys want to put on this jersey and play for this organization. We are happy that is the case and we know we can put it all together. We start with compete level and know that with a consistent message we will be fine as we prepare for our next game,” added Johnson.
That next game will be on the road in Peterborough on Thursday June 25, 2026 at 8 pm. BLC will try to recreate the effort of the last time they appeared at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on June 4th that ended in a 12-10 win.
Scoring – Abrams (0,1) Lintner (2,2) Clark (3,2) Sinfield (1,1) Williams (1.2) Scanlan (2,2)
