Brooklin Lacrosse Club Owns Three First-Round Picks In Major Series Lacrosse Entry Draft
By Sam Laskaris
The Brooklin Lacrosse Club will be welcoming several new faces into its fold on Monday night.
That’s when the Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) Entry Draft will be staged.
The Peterborough Lakers will be hosting the five-round draft. The event will be staged at the Peterborough and District Sports Hall of Fame, located inside the Memorial Arena.
Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
Heading into the draft the Brooklin franchise is holding onto seven picks, including three selections in the first round. But the number of players the team drafts could change if any trades/deals materialize before that night.
The Brooklin brass will kickstart the draft by choosing the top pick over-all. The club also has the fourth and fifth picks over-all, acquired in trades with the Oakville Rock and Six Nations Chiefs, respectively.
Though Brooklin does not have any selections in the second round, it will once again be busy in the third round, with two picks, 13th and 14th over-all.
Brooklin also has one pick in each of the fourth (19th over-all) and fifth rounds (25th over-all).
A total of 30 players will be chosen in the draft, which is open to graduating junior players from within Ontario.
Like Brooklin, the Cobourg Kodiaks, who own the second pick over-all, also have seven selections heading into the draft.
The Brampton Excelsiors currently have the most selections in the draft with eight including two in the first round at 3rd and 6th overall.
The host Lakers do not have an opening-round selection. The first pick for Peterborough, the three-time defending Mann Cup champions, will be in the second round, 12th over-all.
Meanwhile, Six Nations officials are not expected to have a busy night. That’s because the Chiefs have just one pick in the entire draft, a fourth-round selection.
Monday’s draft will be live streamed. Fans can follow the event via a link that will be provided on the MSL website located at majorserieslacrosse.ca
