Brooklin Lacrosse Club Will Kick Off Regular Season In Oakville

By Sam Laskaris

The Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) 2020 regular season schedule has been released.

And the Brooklin Lacrosse Club knows it will be kicking off its campaign with a road contest against the Oakville Rock on June 1.

That match, which has its opening faceoff set for 8 p.m., will be staged at the Rock home rink, the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre, in Oakville.

Just two nights later, Brooklin will have its home opener. That June 3 game, against the three-time defending Mann Cup champion Peterborough Lakers, will be held at Whitby’s Iroquois Park Sports Centre, beginning at 8 p.m.

As in previous years, Brooklin will play the majority of its regular season home matches on Wednesday nights throughout June and July.

Brooklin, however, does have one Saturday home game, set for June 20 versus the Brampton Excelsiors at 7 p.m.

The MSL will once again feature six participating squads this season. The league also includes the Cobourg Kodiaks and the Six Nations Chiefs.

All teams will play an 18-game regular season schedule. Brooklin will play against Oakville, Peterborough, Brampton and Six Nations four times each, twice at home and twice on the road. The uneven schedule will see all teams face an opponent just twice in regular season action. For Brooklin, that translates into just two matches against Cobourg this year.

For Brooklin there’s only one way the team will have an opportunity to go in the standings this season. And that’s up.

And that’s because the franchise, which had one of its most youthful rosters in recent memory in 2019, posted a 4-14 record last season. Brooklin ended up sixth in the league standings and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

It should be noted, however, the Brooklin squad was in the majority of its games, losing five times by two goals or less.

And the Brooklin team did fare considerably better in the second half of its season. The club won four of its final nine games after failing to register a victory in its first nine starts.

Brooklin’s complete regular season schedule is as follows.
