Despite Explosive Third Period, Redmen Lose a Heartbreaker

The Brooklin Redmen celebrated the memory of their former teammate, Scott McMichael with their annual Minor Lacrosse Night named for him. Christine, Donna, Ryan and Mitch were all on hand to celebrate his legacy and it was clear how much Scott is still part of the lacrosse and Redmen family.   The guests this evening were the Six Nations Chiefs who defeated Cobourg at home just 24 hours earlier to improve to 2-4 on the season, the Redmen were coming off a pair of losses and both teams wanted the win to get back on track in this 16 game regular season.

The teams were back and forth for most of the night (Chiefs were up 5-4 after two periods) until the Chiefs opened an 8-4 lead with half the final frame to play. The home side stormed back with four goals in 6 minutes to knot the game at 8-8 and it appeared the game was going to OT. Rich Kilgour and his coaching staff called a timeout with a dozen seconds on the clock and Cody Jamieson carried out the drawn up play to perfection as the visitors scored with just five seconds on the clock for the 9-8 win and a record of 3-4, dropping the Redmen to 3-3.

These two teams meet again on Tuesday June 26 in Six Nations and the Redmen are back home the following night to host Peterborough at IPSC.

Goal scorers for the Redmen were Nick Chaykowsky, Austin Shanks and Austin Murphy with two each, Murphy's first in the opening frame was an acrobatic play after passes from Austin Shanks and Mark Matthews. Singles to Matt Hossack and Ryan Keenan. Mike Poulin made his 2018 season debut in the Redmen net.
