Despite Struggles, Redmen Fans Know Team Will Fight Back

By Mark Stehlin

It has been a tough few weeks for the Redmen. In their last eight games they have two wins, two ties and four losses including a three game skid on the back of a 12-6 loss to the Lakers in Peterborough last night. Long time, dedicated Redmen fans are confident that this team will dig deep and find a way to turn this around.

Coming off a hard fought 12-10 defeat to the Chiefs less than 24 hours before their tilt with the Lakers last night, the Redmen were in a 2-0 hole at the start of the contest and lost the opening frame 4-1 in front of 2,970 fans at the Memorial Centre on Landsdowne St.

The second period did not start any better as the Lakers scored four straight to open the gap to 8-1. Austin Shanks scored his second of the night and Josh Johnson added one late to help a little and it was 9-3 for the home side after two periods.

The teams tied the third at 3-3 and the Redmen showed desire to play for pride. The third also produced a series of fisticuffs as Bryce Sweeting and Thomas Hoggarth squared off with Redmen players Dan Ball and Mitch McMichael with six minutes on the clock that saw the quartet get early access to the hot water in their respective locker rooms.

The Redmen (6-7-2) are a point ahead of Oakville (6-6-1) for third but the Rock have two games in hand. They will host the Lakers in the second half of a home and home on Wednesday July 19, 2017. The team will also honour their 1987 Mann Cup champions that night.
