Effort and Grit on Display as BLC Falls to the Chiefs

By Mark Stehlin

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club met the Six Nations Chiefs tonight at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. Brooklin was riding a three-game win streak after dropping their opening game of the season to the Peterborough Lakers. The Chiefs also lost to the Lakers last week in Peterborough for their only blemish on the season.

Tonight’s box score showed the Chiefs winning the first and third periods by scores of 5-1, while the middle frame was much tighter at 1-1. While the scoreboard displayed an 11-3 win for Six Nations it could not capture the grit and determination of this young BLC squad battling a powerhouse Chiefs line-up.

“They are good team over there, we are a young group that is looking to build chemistry and we are working hard out there to get better,” said rookie Justin Lee, chosen by BLC 11th overall in the 2025 Major Series Lacrosse entry draft.

“I love it here, it’s a team atmosphere and I can see it back in our home rink with the various pictures on the wall,” added Lee.

The Chiefs took it to their guests in the first period reeling off three straight until Will MacLeod deposited one behind Chiefs starter Doug Jamieson to keep the Chiefs within sight. Unfortunately, two very quick goals in the last minute of the opening frame made the deficit that much wider for BLC. Score after the first period was 5-1 in favour of Six Nations.

In the second period Jamieson and BLC starter Steven Orleman both made some key saves to give their respective teams a chance to win. Orleman was facing a number of Buffalo Bandits teammates coming off a championship season in the National Lacrosse League. Each side managed only one goal in that frame. Will MacLeod scored his second of the game in that period on what may have been one of the strangest goals he has scored. The ball hit Jamieson and went straight up in the air, many lost sight of it until the ball dropped and found the back of the net. As the buzzer sounded to mark the end of that second period it was 6-2 for the Chiefs and BLC was in the contest.

Taggart Clark, son of former Brooklin Redmen player Glenn, scored for the visitors to allow them to keep the score close. The Chiefs however decided enough was enough and, with five straight to end the game, took this one 11-3 over BLC.

Scoring for Brooklin -  B Kearnan (0,1) Clark (1,1) Keenan (0,2) MacLeod (2,0)

Notes

Three former members of BLC were in Chiefs jerseys tonight; Steve Priolo, Shayne Jackson, and Dawson Theede (rights traded to the Chiefs for the 2025 and 2026 seasons).

BLC has a short turnaround, equipment manager Paul Wade will be busy getting laundry done in time for their Wednesday night game when they host the Brampton Excelsiors at IPSC.
