Lakers Take Win in Close Game and Series is Now 3-0

The Redmen and Lakers met tonight at IPSC for game three of this best of seven series with the Lakers taking the first two games at home. The Ontario Lacrosse Festival is in full swing and a large and noisy crowd was in attendance, playoff atmosphere was evident from the opening whistle. For the second night in a row the Lakers went on a 5-0 unanswered run including one late in the second period and another early in the third for the 7-6 win and 3-0 series lead.

The Redmen power play was improved tonight as they registered three goals with the extra man, one in each period. Ryan Keenan got the Redmen on the board first and the teams were tied at 2-2 after the opening frame. Adrian Sorichetti was assessed a five minute major for a high stick with 0:30 left in the first and the Redmen were successful in killing off that penalty. That gave the Redmen a boost as they scored two in just over a minute for the 4-2 lead with 6:41 off the clock.  The Lakers also regrouped and rattled off those five aforementioned goals in an 11 minute span straddling the second and third periods and it was 7-4 for the visitors with 1:32 off the clock in the final frame. Mike Poulin stood tall in the Redmen net in the dying seconds of the second and kept the Lakers off the board for what may have been one more in an offensive frenzy.

Shayne Jackson and Dan Lintner scored the final two goals of the night to get the game to 7-6 but that was as close as it got and despite a late time out and Poulin on the bench, the Redmen could not solve Matt Vinc and the Lakers defense. The series is now 3-0 for the Lakers, but the Redmen will enjoy home crowd atmosphere for game four on Friday and one shift and period at a time is the only approach in an effort to extend the series.

Scorers for the Redmen were Jackson , Lintner, Keenan, Austin Shanks, Mark Matthews and Curtis Knight.
