Merchants Stumble on the Road in Six Nations

By Mark Stehlin

The Brooklin Merchants took to the road tonight and met the Rivermen at the Six Nations Sports and Cultural Memorial Center in Ohsweken, ON. The Ontario Series Lacrosse best of five final was tied at 1-1 with each team having won a game on the road. That trend was broken tonight as the hosts won game three by an 11-6 final.

The Rivermen took a 5-1 lead into the first intermission after scoring on their first few shots on net.  the Merchants came to play in the middle frame as it ended at 4-4 to give the Rivermen a 9-5 after forty minutes. The third period was the lowest scoring of the night as it was 2-1 in favour of the home team and the game ended at a score of 11-6 at the buzzer.

Reached after the game, Head Coach, Ryan Degerdon said "I told the boys, it's a series for a reason."

He added, "not to make excuses but some guys arrived late after accidents on the highway, some showing up as late as 7:30 p.m." for the 8:00 p.m. start.

Degerdon said, "the energy on the bench was different,  very few positive vibes but a great deal of frustration."

He closed by saying "the boys battled but every time we closed the gap, they would answer with a goal and we just couldn't get any closer, I expect we will be better at home on Sunday night at home and we plan on being back in Six Nations on Wednesday night for a game five."
