Prout Busy at Roster Deadline
By Mark Stehlin
It is that time of year when all seven teams are required to submit their 25-player roster to the Major Series Lacrosse (MSL) league office. This meant that for Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) General Manager Gavin Prout, with input from his coaching staff, he was busy working the phones in an effort to get the best roster possible for a solid run to the playoffs.
In addition to putting the finishing touches on the roster, he also made a couple of deadline deals to strengthen the squad.
He dealt Bo Columbus to the Owen Sound North Stars and received left-handed forward Dylan Watson in return.
Watson played 14 games for the National Lacrosse League's San Diego Seals in the 2025-26 season. He scored 19 goals, added 17 assists for 36 points. In Owen Sound, he played eight games before the trade and was good for 10 goals, 15 assists for 25 points.
“We were a little light on the left side and Dylan filled a need we had. It was tough to lose Bo but due to his distance to travel to home games and the play of Jack Oldman in the face-off circle, it was a good move for us,” said Prout.

The BLC wishes Bo all the best and thanks him for his dedication and effort.
A second move saw Broedie Birkhof arrive from the Peterborough Lakers in exchange for a fourth-round and a fifth-round draft pick in the 2028 MSL Draft.
“Broedie will bring an element of toughness to the team. He can play and make room out there for guys to be able to take shots from different parts of the floor,” commented Prout.

“Both Broedie and Dylan have committed to playing all remaining games and we expect them to bring energy and excitement to the team,” said Prout.
BLC has played 11 of their 18 games in the 2026 MSL regular season. They have a record of 5-6 and with 10 points are in fifth place. Cobourg and Peterborough also have 10 points but have games in hand, two for Cobourg and one for Peterborough.
Watson will face his old teammates in Owen Sound as BLC travels there on Saturday for a game at 7 pm. The team then will play the Oakville Rock at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre on Monday at 7:30 p.m. before they host the Rock on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. at Iroquois Park Sports Centre. This is a critical three-game run for BLC.
