Redmen Celebrate Scott McMichael Minor Lacrosse Night with a Win
Shawn Williams with his first two goals on the season as well as one from keeper Zac Higgins helped the Redmen to a 9-5 win over Oakville.
The Rock made a game of it with the Redmen up 6-4 at the end of forty minutes, Mike Mawdsley scored with two minutes off the clock in the final frame to make it 6-5 before the Redmen turned it on. Subsequent goals from John Lafontaine and Dan Lintner added to the aforementioned marker from Higgins with 47 seconds on the clock for the 9-5 final.
The home side were up 4-1 after the first and their first five goals on the night were scored either on the power play or while short-handed. The eighth goal by the Redmen at 6:29 of the third period was a clear vision of the future of this club, a great passing play from Williams to Lafontaine and scored by Lintner displayed the great veteran leadership handing off to the younger talent. Williams grabbed Lafontaine in congratulations.
Tempers flared in the second with two sets of fights that had the lively crowd on their feet.
Redmen, now alone atop the standings, will enjoy a week off before hosting the Excelsiors next Wed July 2 at 8 pm which marks the mid-way point of their regular season.
