Redmen Make Changes

Following the resignation of General Manager and Head Coach Wayne Colley in October, Donna Colley has resigned from her position as Treasurer with the team. Wayne and Donna have recently sold their home, and have moved north full time to concentrate on their business and property.

Wayne has been instrumental in keeping the Redmen competitive both on the floor and off since taking over the team.  As General Manager and Head Coach difficult decisions often had to made, but Wayne made them with the organization's best interest at heart.  In departing, Colley has left the Redmen in a solid position with a great nucleus of players to build on.

Donna has always been a great volunteer doing anything she could for the Redmen.  You could catch her in various jobs throughout the games, never stopping, always working.  50/50 tickets, sewing name bars on jerseys, treasurer reports, she did it all.

Redmen President Dean Link expressed words of praise, “We just can’t thank Wayne and Donna enough for their work, commitment, and contributions to the success of the franchise.  People don’t understand what it takes to run a team and the long hours that need to be put in, but Donna and Wayne gave tirelessly. The Redmen organization wishes them the best, and they’ll always be part of the team. Their contributions go so much further than wins and losses.”

Link announced that effective immediately Brad MacArthur will take over as General Manager removing the interim tag. Derek Keenan will take over as Head Coach & Director of Player Personnel.

Keenan reflected on the past season, and looked to the future, "2016 was my first season on the Redmen staff and must say the operation of Major Series Lacrosse in general was an eye opener. But I got to see first-hand the work Donna and Wayne put in day in and day out for so many years. Wayne gave me the opportunity to help out last year and for that I am grateful. From a player personnel perspective, Wayne leaves the Redmen in excellent shape with a wealth of young talent. When considering the future of this storied team I think it's really important to have strength on the administration side and Brad has proven in his role as interim GM of the Redmen that he is ready to take on the permanent GM role. My role as Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel will allow me to continue to contribute in areas I still think I have some fuel in the tank."

MacArthur, who played for Colley for both the Redmen and Warriors Jr. A was grateful, “It was great to work with Wayne. I owe him a debt of gratitude.  He traded for my Junior “A” rights in 1993. I came to Whitby and learned a great deal from him and then others about the game. It was a turning point in my lacrosse career in terms of development and how I viewed the game. Now there is an opportunity to continue to work with a decorated coach and Hall of Famer in Derek.”

The Redmen are looking to fill the treasurer position for the upcoming season.  Any interested parties should contact Dean Link at info@brooklinredmen.ca
