Redmen Open Season at 2-0 with Road Win Against Rock

A mere 48 hours after their regular season home opener, an 11-10 win over Brampton, the Redmen packed up for the trip down the QEW to the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre and a Friday night date with the Oakville Rock. Thanks to rookies Nick Chaykowsky and Connor Kearnen, three goals and two goals respectively, the Redmen prevailed with a 9-6 final to start the young season at 2-0.

Chaykowsky kicked off his three goal performance with a goal just 0:38 in to the contest, shedding the adage of visiting teams suffering "bus legs". The teams went on to tie the opening frame at 2-2.

The Redmen enjoyed a 4-2 second period, their four goals were book-ended by two from the homeside including Johnny Powless getting one behind Redmen starter Zach Higgins with one second showing on the clock. The teams went to break with the Redmen on top by virtue of a 6-4 lead after forty minutes.

Oakville regrouped and came storming out with two goals to knot the contest at 6-6 with four minutes off the clock. Chaykowsky had seen enough and his third on the night was followed by two more unanswered (Kearnen and Brodie Tutton) to secure the 9-6 win and an important two points on the road.

Each side was assessed four minor penalties, Brooklin scored once short-handed and the Rock capitalized once on the power play.
