Redmen Over Oakville , Good for Second Overall

The Brooklin Redmen defeated the Oakville Rock for second time in three days, this time by a final of 9-6. The win secured second overall for the Redmen and dropped the Rock to fourth place. Playoffs are now set with the Redmen to meet Six Nations in the first round with home floor while the Rock play the Lakers in the other series.

The visitors scored first before the Redmen answered but the Rock jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one period. The Redmen came out of the intermission with a little extra jump in their step and scored twice to tie the game at 3-3, they also converted two on the power play and the teams were deadlocked at 5-5 after the second to set up a thrilling third. The Redmen opened the lead to 7-5 with less than five minutes off the clock with two from Curtis Knight, the Rock closed the gap to 7-6 but that was as close as they would get as Knight scored his third of the period and Kevin Brownell added one to the empty net to seal the win at 9-6.

Five goals for Knight and goalies Zack Higgins and Nick Rose played stellar with the Rock out-shooting the Redmen 56-48. The Redmen were two for two on the power play while the Rock were zero for one. Roger Nurse and Blair Ferguson let the players decide the game, Bryan Cole was given a five minute roughing penalty after he took a run at Higgins and Shayne Jackson got two for coming to his goalies assistance.

 Game 1 for the Redmen/Chiefs series is at Iroquois on Wednesday August 3 at 8 pm, the Redmen are hoping for a good crowd with the Ontario Lacrosse Festival invading Iroquois Park and Durham Region beginning on July 29.
