Redmen Snap Losing Skid With Hard Fought Tie at Home

Coming off a loss last night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Redmen faced a quick turnaround hosting the Peterborough Lakers tonight at IPSC. The game marked the halfway point of the 16-game regular season and the Redmen were anxious to snap a four game losing streak.  Fans in attendance were treated to a great contest with up and down action and solid displays of defense and goaltending at critical times. The teams were knotted at 7-7 after regulation, the full 10-minute OT solved nothing as each side scored once to end the game at 8-8 providing each team a point.  All teams, save the Chiefs, have registered at least one tie this season which is proving to be the closest in recent memory.

The visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead including a power play marker from Shawn Evans with eight minutes on the clock in the opening frame. Led by Dan Lintner the Redmen popped three straight including Reilly O'Connor's goal for which he was in perfect position to snag a rebound off Lakers starter Evan Kirk and deposited the ball to give the Redmen a 3-2 lead heading into break.

To mirror the start of the contest, the Lakers scored two in succession to open the middle frame and regained the 4-3 lead. The teams went back and forth and Lintner with his second of the night off a pretty passing play by first overall draft pick Holden Garlent and Ryan MacSpadyen proved a memorable offensive play. The Lakers capitalized with 0:35 on the clock and the teams went to break tied at 6-6.

The final frame saw each team capitalize once for the 7-7 tie after regulation. Nick Chaykowsky scored for the Redmen in the extra frame but Evans responded just 0:21 later to salvage the tie.

The game had a chippy feel at times with officials Andrew Ecclestone and Kyle Kropman calling 16 minutes on eight minors to the Lakers and 10 minutes on five to the Redmen, each side scored once with the extra man. Shots on net were 64 for the Lakers and 49 for the Redmen.

Brooklin 3-4-1 will host Oakville 5-1-1 on July 4 at 8:00 pm on a night when the 1988 Mann Cup winning Brooklin Redmen will be honoured. Any former Redmen players from that team are asked to attend the game and, better still, meet at Bollocks Pub and Kitchen 30 Taunton Rd East , Whitby at 6:00 pm on game night for a pre-game celebration and reunion.
