Redmen Unable to Move up Standings
The 2016 Major Series Lacrosse regular season is down to four games on the schedule. After last night’s 9-5 Redmen loss in Peterborough and Oakville over Brampton by 11-4 the standings of the top four are: Peterborough in first with 23 points, Oakville at 19, Six Nations at 18 and Brooklin at 17. The final few games will be interesting to watch to determine first round playoff pairings.
The Redmen, coming off a thrilling 11-10 win over Six Nations the night before, packed up for the trip north on Highway 115 to meet the Lakers. The visitors got on the board first as Ryan Keenan potted his 14th of the season, followed by two for the Lakers and the Redmen trailed 2-1 after one.
The Redmen rookies continued to play strong as Austin Shanks tied the game early in the second followed by the newest Redmen, Chris Corbeil who scored his first in the uniform for a short lived 3-2 lead. The Lakers rattled off four straight en route to a 6-3 cushion after two periods. That would be too much for the visitors to overcome as they were outscored 3-2 in the final period for the 9-5 defeat.
Shots on net were 47-38 in favour of Peterborough and the teams went a combined 2 for 11 on the power play with the Redmen given eight chances.
The Redmen are in Cobourg this Sunday and then have a chance at redemption over the Lakers with a visit on Wednesday. Their regular season will conclude with a home and home versus the Oakville Rock on July 25 and July 27.
