Redmen Win in a Thriller at IPSC

The Redmen and Rock answered each other goal for goal all night and it appeared that the Redmen may have to play their second overtime game of the week. Reilly O’Connor had other plans tonight and ended the game with a no- look goal with 21 seconds on the clock, the Redmen had last possession and held on for the 10-9 win and improve to 2-4-1 on the season.
Redmen opened the scoring and won the first period 3-2. It took almost eight minutes for a goal to be registered in the middle frame as Oakville tied the contest, Redmen took the 7-6 lead into the third with a goal in the last five seconds of the middle frame. Oakville tied the game at 7-7 with four minutes off the clock in the third and the teams were tied for the last six minutes of regulation until O’Reilly decided that fans would not be treated to any extra time.

Whitby Warrior call-up Austin Shanks, who had a hat trick for the Redmen earlier in the season had a five goal and two assist performance. Zack Higgins took the win in the Redmen net while ex-Redmen Steve Fryer was in for the Rock. Major Series Lacrosse Commissioner was in the house tonight to present Redmen GM and Coach, Wayne Colley with his 2014 Coach of the Year Award.

Lots of penalties on the night, O’Connor with a five minute major for high sticking and Shawn Williams in twice for roughing.

 Scott McMichael Minor Lacrosse Night next week Wed June 27 at 8 pm with a visit from the Six Nations Chiefs, two time defending Mann Cup champs.
