Redmen Win, Shawn Williams Within One Point of Second in All Time Points

With an 11-9 win at Cobourg last night, the Redmen inch back up the standings and with 19 points are tied for second overall with Oakville. The Rock have a game in hand and these two teams battle in a home and home series next week. On the back of a one goal and four assist performance, Shawn Williams is now just one point behind Johnny Davis for 2nd place in all-time points.

The game was about runs in all three periods and it was an offensive explosion by the Redmen in the final frame that clinched the deal.

The Kodiaks welcomed their guests with three successive goals to open the game before the Redmen responded the same way, one more for Cobourg sent the teams to break with the home side up 4-3.

Cobourg extended their lead to 6-3 with two more to start the middle frame before a repeat from the Redmen to close the gap. One more late from the home side and it was 7-5 Cobourg after two periods.

The Redmen are in a fight for top spot and could not afford to let one slip away to a hard working but struggling Kodiaks team on this night. With a pair of successive three goal runs the Redmen won the final frame 6-2 and the game 11-9 for the important two points. Neither team was able to convert on the power play, with three chances for Brooklin and two for Cobourg.

The Redmen host the league leading Peterborough Lakers on Wednesday and finish off with a pair next week with the Oakville Rock, Monday at the TRAC and Wednesday at home.
