Redmen With an 8-1 Record at the Mid-way Point of 2014 Regular Season
On the heels of a commanding 11-4 win over the Brampton Excelsiors, the Redmen extend their lead on top of the MSL standings. The first two periods in tonight’s game between the Redmen and the visiting Excelsiors was a defenders dream as it was 2-1 for Brampton after twenty minutes and 4-2 after two for the home side, who kept their guests off the score sheet in the middle frame.
It was the third period that saw the tight defensive game open up and Brampton back-stop Anthony Cosmo and newly acquired Mike Poulin got tested often as the both offenses started to click. Fortunately for Redmen fans, that showed with a seven goal third period explosion compared to two for Brampton. The Redmen had a number of power play chances and capitalized on three of them including one for Cosmo who took matters in to his own hands in the second with a roughing minor in the second. Acquired with Poulin from the KW Kodiaks, Mike Teeter also scored his first in a Redmen uniform. Also strong on offence were Shayne Jackson and Kiel Matisz both with three on the night.
The Redmen don’t have much time to celebrate as they have to travel north on Highway 35/115 Thursday night for an 8 pm date at the Memorial Centre against the Peterborough Lakers and then they travel to Brampton for a 7 game against the Excelsiors at Memorial Arena as the Powerade Centre is unavailable to them.
