Ryan Degerdon Named Head Coach of Two-time Defending LAXNAI Champs Rochester Bats

By Mark Stehlin

The North American Invitational (also known as “LAXNAI”), the world’s largest international box lacrosse tournament, is back this year from September 17-20, 2026.

Fans of the Brooklin Merchants, Whitby Steelhawks and the Brooklin Lacrosse Club will recognize a familiar name behind the bench. Merchants and Steelhawks head coach, Ryan Degerdon was approached to guide the two-time defending champion Rochester Bats through the tournament.

Degerdon was asked how he felt when he got the nod to be the bench boss.

“It was flattering to be asked to come on board and coach. I spoke to Mike (Cooper) and he said he would like me to join him on the team.  I like the fact that the Bats are two-time defending champs because that means teams will be coming for us. I plan to set a standard from the first game, and we will be clear with the players that we are here to win,” said Degerdon.

The Bats will start defense of their title with an early evening game on Thursday September 17, 2026 when they battle the Seneca Marksmen.
