Valiant Effort Falls Just Short in BLC Home Loss

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club (BLC) young guns put on a great show for their fans in last night's home opener against the Peterborough Lakers. The squad was laced with protected and drafted players from the 2025 Major Series Lacrosse entry draft held in January.

Despite a solid third period where they outscored their guests 6-2, that would not be enough as the Lakers took this one by a final of 13-10. The Lakers took the first period 4-1 and the second 7-3 to build a gap was just too wide for a chance at a win by BLC.

"There were a lot of new faces out there and chemistry is something we want to build on. We had a good draft and that showed with some of the talent on the floor out there," said Head Coach, Joel Johnson after the game.

The Lakers jumped on the board first with a goal just 30 seconds in before veteran and BLC team captain, Connor Kearnan fired on past starter Drew Hutchison to even the game. A three-goal run by the visitors gave them the first frame.

To start the second period, fans were treated to some early excitement as Taggart Clark scored his first of three on the night and Jacob Hickey ran one in off the  draw to close the gap with just three minutes elapsed. The veteran laden Laker side decided that push from BLC had to be neutralized and reeled off six unanswered to quell the early BLC optimism.

With the scoreboard reading 11-4 for Peterborough, BLC had a choice to ride this one out or put in a solid effort for their fans for the season home opener. Fortunately, it was the latter that transpired as a spirited effort was on display for the final 20 minutes.

"Sometimes when you are in a hole, it's easy to lose your discipline or your work ethic. I liked our hunger and our drive especially in that third period. I told the guys after the game that hard work will pay off and I think they learned that as a group tonight," added Johnson.

BLC gave their fans a reason to cheer with a goal early in the third period. Will MacLeod with his second, Taggart with his third and Boushy with his second accounted for the 6-2 third period win that showed a 'never quit' attitude from this young team.

There will be no rest as BLC will make their way to Brampton Thursday night, followed by a visit to Oakville before they return home next Wednesday to host the Cobourg Kodiaks to end a four-game run in the first week of the season.
