Victory Blooms in the Flower City for BLC

By Mark Stehlin

The Brooklin Lacrosse Club packed up their gear for a rare Saturday matinee in Brampton this afternoon. They were coming off a tough 7-6 loss at home to Peterborough the other night and sought a better outcome in the Flower City this afternoon.

The Excelsiors jumped on the board with less than 30 seconds off the clock before BLC were able to answer with three straight and they went on to take a 3-2 lead after the first period. As was the case on Wednesday, the second period was a struggle for BLC tonight, they were outscored 5-2 by Brampton who took a 7-5 lead into the second intermission. The Excelsiors rattled off four straight to open the lead in that second period.  Another comparison to Wednesday's game saw BLC score four of their own to start the final frame. The difference in this game was that they were able to take, and build on, the lead, en route to a 10-8 win improving to 7-3-0 on the season while dropping the Excelsiors to 1-9-0.

Head Coach Joel Johnson said "we have faced some adversity the last couple of games, we can take that into the playoffs as a learning opportunity."

He added "I never sensed panic or urgency in the group today, we knew that hard work and picking up the pace to our level would allow us to control the game and play our way. "

Finally, he said "I was proud of the guys for battling through the adversity and taking the win, adding the two points with the end of the regular season next week."

BLC will meet the Oakville Rock for the first time this season on Monday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre before hosting the same Rock team on Wednesday July 10 at 8 pm for their regular season finale.
